Hydraulic Seals

Hydraulic seals are a vital element of many types of machinery as they act to block or separate fluid existing within specific applications. Hydraulic seals form part of a collection of rings which form a construction and are commonly a soft, non-metallic ring made from a number of different materials including polyurethane, rubber and Polytetrafluoroethylene (also know as PTFE). The type of material used for hydraulic seals is usually dependant on the conditions at which the seal is operating; some machinery may encompass limitations such as temperature, pressure and chemical compatibility.

The machinery may also decide what variety of hydraulic seals is applied as for certain appliances a static or dynamic seal may be chosen. The benefits of dynamic hydraulic seals, typically known as rod seals, is that they can be exposed to movement and still perform their job with the extra quality of freedom of movement, whereas static seals arte positioned in one particular location to perform their functions. These two similar products often are a decisive factor for the role of the hydraulic cylinder.

Leakage through the rod seals or static seals can in some cases cause breakdowns and environmental impairment to product, staff and machinery alike; therefore, it is of considerable significance to make the correct decision in choosing hydraulic seals and to be familiar with the properties of other existing seal types for the specific job and machinery.
