Neoprene Compressor Seals

Neoprene Compressor Seals are one of the many synthetic rubbers Compressor Seals we offer here at Midas Engineering and they are used in a wide range of applications. Neoprene is a breathable material often included in wetsuits, electrical insulation, fishing waders and car fan belts. Its chemical inertness makes it well suited for industrial applications such as Compressor Seals, gaskets, hoses, and corrosion-resistant coatings. It can also be used as a base for adhesives.

Neoprene is used for noise isolation in power transformer installations. Its supple consistency makes it infamously tricky to fold when in sheet form. Neoprene can also be used as padding in external metal cases to shelter the contents while allowing a secure fit. Neoprene Compressor Seals are also in comparison to other materials used in similar circumstances, relatively cheap. In recent times, neoprene has become a popular substance for technological devices and other home accessories including laptop sleeves, iPod holders, remote controls, etc.

Neoprene was formulated by DuPont scientists after Dr. Elmer K. Bolton of DuPont laboratories attended a lecture by Fr. Julius Arthur Nieuwland, a professor of chemistry at the University of Notre Dame. Fr. Nieuwland's research concentrates on acetylene chemistry and during the course of his work he manufactured divinyl acetylene, a jelly which solidifies into an elastic compound similar to rubber when passed over sulfur dichloride. After DuPont purchased the patent rights from the university, Wallace Carothers of DuPont continued to develop the products working closely with Nieuwland. All this effort has resulted in superb Compressor Seals.
